Father-daughter duo of travel agents booked for duping Nakodar villager of Rs 20 lakhs

NAKODAR 29 SEPTEMBER

The Nakodar Sadar police have booked a father-daughter duo of travel agents for allegedly duping a Nakodar village resident of Rs 20 lakhs on the pretext of sending his family abroad.

Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Onkar Singh Brar said that the accused have been identified as Gurdev Singh alias Gogi son of Kishan Singh, a resident of Bajuha Khurd village, and his daughter Sarabjit Kaur.

DSP said that Charanjit   a resident of Thabalke village, complained to Jalandhar (Rural) Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) that he paid Rs 20 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his family members’ migration abroad, but the accused did not send them abroad, nor did he return his money.

DSP said that a case under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the BNS and section 13 of the Travel Profession Regulation Act has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.

The Complainant has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking justice, and the Court ruled on September 3 that the

reply in the present case be submitted by the DGP Punjab, as the allegations levelled in the present complaint are specifically against the wife of a police officer, namely Ashwani Kumar. For obvious reasons, the Investigating Agency at the local level appears to be somewhat reluctant to proceed further on the basis of the complaint lodged by the petitioner and adjourned the hearing to October 6.
