Woman among two arrested for murder bid, firing

The Nurmahal police have arrested a woman and her friend on the charges of murder bid and firing.

Station House Officer (SHO) Kuldeep Ram said that the accused have been identified as Manjit Kaur daughter of Harnek Singh a resident of Uppal Jagir village and her friend Harkirat Singh son of Sodhi Singh a resident of Sohal Jagir village under Shahkot police station.

Happy a resident of Uppal Bhupa village under Bilga police station complained to the police that he along with his younger brother Navdeep Singh were going to Nurmahal on Monday late evening via village Uppal Jagir when a vehicle hit them from behind near Capital Bank branch and they fell.

The complainant said that both the accused came out from their vehicle and abused and assaulted them and woman asked her friend to open fire, and the accused Harkirat Singh opened fire from his pistol targeting his brother and one gunshot injured his right wrist and second gunshot touched his abdomen. He said he was also injured by assailants.

Happy said when he raised an alarm village resident started reaching on the spot and accused fled away. He said reason behind firing was fear of girl that we will tell her parents about her activity.

SHO said a case under section 109(attempt to murder) 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS and sections 25/57 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused.
