Speed up SVEEP activities to increase  voting percentage in LS polls- ADC

 Keeping in view the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections-2024, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development)-cum-District Nodal Officer (Sveep) Jasbir Singh on Monday asked the District Sveep Nodal Officers to speed up the Sveep activities to increase the voting percentage in the district.
 
After a video conference with the Additional Chief Electoral Officer at the District Administrative Complex here, the Additional Deputy Commissioner issued necessary directions to the District SVEEP Nodal Officers to prepare a detailed strategy regarding the conduct of assembly-level Sveep activities to ensure maximum voter participation in the elections. He added that it was the need of the hour to make the maximum people aware of their voting rights.
 
Laying special emphasis on increasing the voting percentage of young voters, women, PWD voters, and urban voters, the ADC said that special Sveep activities should be carried out to achieve the goal of maximum voter turnout among these sections through motivation.  He also asked the officials to include district Sveep icons in these activities. 

He further directed the officials to make special efforts to increase the vote percentage by reaching out to such polling locations, where the vote percentage was lower during the previous elections. 

 
Earlier, the Additional Deputy Commissioner participated in the meeting held by the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab through video conference and informed about the Sveep activities being conducted in the district. The Additional Deputy Commissioner also said that special attention should be paid to voter awareness to ensure more than 70 percent voter turnout during the Lok Sabha elections. 
 
He asked the Nodal Officer of Media Monitoring and Certification-Cum-District Public Relations Officer to ensure maximum voter awareness through various means of communication.  Apart from this, greater efforts should be made to increase the vote percentage at booths with low voting during the previous elections, he added.
 
He said that proper use of social media should be ensured to reach more people about the Sveep activities. Apart from this, the participation of educational institutions, NGOs, and NSS volunteers should be ensured.
