DC reviews poll preparedness with all ARO’s

In view of ensuing Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Deputy Commissioner-Cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal on Saturday hold a review meeting with all the assistant returning officers of all 9 assembly segments wherein he directed them to pull up socks for the free, fair and transparent conduct of Lok Sabha Elections in Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency.
Chairing the review meeting, the Deputy Commissioner minutely observed the poll preparedness made so far while directing them to ensure completion of the necessary procedure as directed by the Election Commission of India. He also asked that all the necessary arrangements should be put in place as per the guidelines of the commission.
Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Mr. Sarangal took stock of preparedness with respect to model code of conduct, deployment of surveillance teams, mapping of vulnerable or critical polling booths, dispatch/collection centers for EVMs, strong rooms, deployment of election staff, appointment of master trainers, SVEEP activities, besides others.
While reviewing distribution of EPIC cards, the DC said that the administration had received as many as 29,608 cards for the month of December 2023 of which over 14,000 cards have been distributed while remaining cards will be distributed shortly.
He pointed out that special efforts should be made to increase voter’s turnout especially in low turnout locations by roping in young voters to further strengthen the democratic process.
Mr. Sarangal also asked them to strengthen the voter awareness program especially in educational institutions so that participation of youth in voting process to be increased.
It may be mentioned here that in the final publication of voter list in Jalandhar , 16,17,339 voters have been registered in Jalandhar parliamentary constituency.
